“Boots” Ennis Silences The Naysayers By Making A Statement Against Stanionis

The Matchroom April 12th main event was supposed to be a winner take all toe-to-toe slugfest, but it turned into a made statement, as Jaron “Boots” Ennis stopped Eimantas Stanionis (15-1, 9 KOs ) in the sixth round.Stanionis is a very good fighter, but this past Saturday night, Boots Ennis exposed the gap in talent. On the night in which somebody’s 0 had to go, Ennis kept his 0 and gained two additional belts.

In the opening round of the unification title bout, Ennis came out in the orthodox stance changing levels with the jab, and throwing the right to the body. At the midpoint of the first round, Stanionis caught Ennis with a counter left hook.

Ennis appeared to be in control of the second round until Stanionis landed a left followed by the right. In the 3rd round, the Ennis vs Stanionis fight was shaping up to be the classic shootout that everyone was expecting.

Boots Ennis began to take over in the 4th, as he was moving around, landing his offense, and avoiding shots thrown by Stanionis. During the first half of the 5th round, Stanionis was doing his best offensive work, but Ennis ended the round by landing a flurry of hard shots.

With bruising around his eyes, and blood pouring out of his nose, Stanionis was still pressing forward. In the closing seconds of the sixth round, Ennis landed two shots to the body, then he proceeded to drop Stanionis when he landed four consecutive uppercuts.

Eimantas Stanionis was able to get up and make it to the end of the sixth round. Stanionis was taking a lot of punishment, and losing all of the rounds. Despite the fact that he was fighting back, his corner still decided to put a halt to the contest at the conclusion of the sixth.

Now the Philadelphia native Jaron “Boots” Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs) is the unified IBF, WBA, and Ring Magazine champion. Both Ennis and Stanionis were beneficiaries of Terence “Bud” Crawford moving up to a higher weight class.

When Terence Crawford moved up, Ennis was elevated to IBF welterweight world champion, and Stanionis was elevated to the WBA champion. During his post-fight interview, Boots Ennis spoke about the added motivation to win a title inside of the ring.

“This IBF belt right here, I was the interim champion and I was elevated. I woke up one morning and I was the world champion,” Ennis said. “I never actually fought for this belt and I finally was able to fight for the WBA, or fight for another title, and take it from the man and beat him, you know, that’s a blessing and that’s everything I always wanted.”

In addition to receiving the chance to win a world title inside of the ring, Ennis also received an opportunity to silence the Naysayers. The critics were quick to verbalize their opinions after Ennis delivered a subpar performance.

After Saturday night, some of the critics were silenced and others are trying to find a new excuse in regards to diminishing the new unified champion’s accomplishment. Prior to the bout, some of the Boots Ennis critics believed Stanionis would expose him, and win the fight.

Now since Ennis dominated Stanionis, the critics are saying Ennis was supposed to win because Stanionis was a underdog who was coming off of a layoff.

Whether you like him or don’t like him, Jaron “Boots” Ennis is a generational talent. With the other two welterweight champions hesitant in regards to stepping up to the Boots Ennis challenge, it is safe to say Jaron Ennis is the best boxer in the world at 147, and he could very well be the best talent at 154.
