Kurtley Beale is thrilled to be back as the veteran Wallabies playmaker opens up on his challenging recovery from a ruptured Achilles.

The 36-year-old is set to complete a remarkable return for the Force against the Blues on Friday.

Capped 95 times by Australia, Beale has been sidelined since June 2024 after suffering the injury while playing for Randwick — just days after being named in the national squad.

His return, starting at fullback, comes at a crucial time for the Perth-based Force in the race to the playoffs.

“There were some tough days where I considered retiring,” Beale told Rugby.com.au. “It was isolating. A lot of thoughts crossed my mind. But something deep down pushed me to finish on my terms.”

Beale praised Force rehab coach Mike Dan for driving his recovery and credited his family for their unwavering support.

“He’s unbelievable, pushing me to my limits,” he said. “Very testing, challenging, but very grateful. Those guys pushing you every day.

“My wife and family gave me the energy to get back up and put my dreams into reality.”

Facing the Blues at Eden Park — where the Force have never won — adds further edge to his return. “The Blues are tough, they’ll be up for it. But I’m ready to get out there and give it everything,” Beale said.

“There’s a great energy in the group. It’s an amazing opportunity.”

His comeback also puts him back in the frame for Wallabies selection ahead of the British & Irish Lions tour in July and August.
