Barcelona was set to host Osasuna on Matchday 27 of the 2024-25 La Liga season, aiming to solidify their position at the top of the table. However, less than 30 minutes before kickoff, the match was officially suspended due to force majeure.
According to DAZN, a member of Barcelona’s medical staff suddenly passed away this afternoon, just hours before kickoff. In light of the tragic event, Barcelona players themselves requested the suspension, which was subsequently granted.
Shortly after the announcement, Barcelona released a statement expressing its deep sadness over the passing of first-team doctor Carles Miñarro Garcia, who was 40 years old. Miñarro had been with the club since 2017, initially working with Barcelona’s futsal team before joining the first-team staff this season.
Both Osasuna and La Liga also issued statements offering their deepest condolences to Miñarro’s family, friends, and the Barcelona staff, expressing solidarity during this difficult time. The news deeply affected the Barcelona squad, with players unable to even take the field for warm-ups before the match was suspended.
Match postponed until further notice
Alongside its message of support, La Liga officially announced the postponement of the fixture, with the final decision now in the hands of the sole Competition Judge. According to the league’s statement, a new date and time for the match will be announced in due course.
