Barcelona hold a strong interest in Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to Sport, but there is no consensus within the club on that and they expect Robert Lewandowski to renew his contract soon.
Barca head coach Hansi Flick is obviously very happy with Lewandowski, whose quality continues to shine for the time being, but there is no hiding from the fact that the Poland international turns 37 this year and his game-time needs to be managed with care. A long-term successor must be identified, and Gyokeres is the first name on the list of candidates for the role. Another potential target is apparently Alexander Isak of Newcastle.
Meanwhile, Gyokeres continues to ripple nets in Portugal and Europe. The 25-year-old Sweden international has an incredible total of 36 goals and seven assists in 37 matches in all competitions for Sporting so far. His contract has more than three years left to run, and his services certainly won’t come cheap.
