Mikel Arteta has opened up on his admiration for Luis Enrique as Arsenal put together to face Paris Saint-Germain within the Champions League.

Arsenal host the French champions in an enormous showdown on the Emirates on Tuesday evening, in a managerial conflict between Arteta and compatriot Enrique.

Arteta got here by means of the youth ranks at Barcelona at a time when Enrique was a first-team star for the Catalans and has watched on because the latter has had large success in his teaching profession.

Enrique led Barcelona to a La Liga, Champions League and Copa del Rey treble in 2014/15 and received a treble of trophies throughout his debut season at PSG in 2023/24.

Talking at his pre-match press convention, Arteta stated he is stuffed with admiration for Enrique who has left ‘his fingerprints’ on all of the groups he has coached.

“I’m an admirer of him. An unbelievable persona. Large character, large power He’s very supportive of younger gamers all the time.

“What I really like about him is no matter he has been, as a participant or a supervisor, his fingerprints are in all places. You’ll be able to sense that that’s his group. The way in which the gamers behave, the best way they need to assault, they need to dominate groups. The spirit and power they’ve. He has this unbelievable energy.

“His lifestyle and his occupation. It’s one thing to actually have a look at and I’ve realized loads of issues from him.”
