For Aneesah Morrow, her rookie season hasn’t kicked off quite the way she wanted it to. After entirely missing the preseason and the first two games of the season due to a knee injury, Morrow made her debut against the Minnesota Lynx last month. But because of minute restrictions, the Connecticut Sun rookie just couldn’t unleash her abilities.

However, that is exactly what she did in the Sun’s latest game against the Phoenix Mercury as she registered a career-high in points and rebounds, prompting her friend and LSU teammate Angel Reese to show the rookie some love.

Aneesah Morrow Balls Out in Angel Reese’s Sneakers

The week would’ve been a proud one, especially for LSU coach Kim Mulkey, who has played a key role in the development of both Reese and Morrow. While Reese made the jump to the WNBA in 2024, Morrow followed quite literally in her footsteps this year, even getting picked 7th overall, just like Reese.

Reese recorded her first triple-double in the WNBA this week against Morrow’s Sun. While Morrow wasn’t available to play in the game due to her minutes restriction, it appears that seeing her LSU teammate dominate lit a spark within the rookie. A spark that Phoenix ended up on the wrong side of.

LET HER COOK.

— Angel Reese (@Reese10Angel) June 19, 2025

Morrow ended her career-high night against the Mercury with 16 points and 9 rebounds as she played 20+ minutes for the first time this season. Reese, who has been vocal in her support for Morrow ever since she’s entered the league, once again had her back as she was seen hyping the rookie up on ‘X‘.

What made the performance even sweeter for Reese was the fact that Morrow did it in the Bayou Barbie’s latest sneakers. Reebok launched a player edition of the Reebok Engine A for the Sky star earlier this month. The PE, called the “Pretty Gritty” colorway, was worn by Morrow during her career night, giving Reebok and her friend some free marketing.

However, the dominant performance against a formidable frontcourt in Alyssa Thomas and Satou Sabally couldn’t get the Sun over the hump.

Connecticut have started the season with only 2 wins in their first 12 games of the season, albeit facing formidable sides early on in the season, including the likes of Minnesota Lynx, NY Liberty and the Indiana Fever (twice). Another factor for these losses is the mounting injuries the Sun faced early on in the season which they’d hope to turn around with their players now returning to full strength.

For Morrow, however, this only seems like the start. Similar to Reese, Morrow is also a double-double machine and is relentless on the boards. While coach Rachid Meziane has given his rookie enough time to recover, even having her on limited minutes upon her return, he can now look to Morrow to turn their season around. For if the Sun don’t begin to heat up right about now, their Playoff hopes could turn to ash.
