One look at the Manchester United squad and it is pretty clear that Ruben Amorim needs reinforcements all across the pitch.

But given the financial constraints, he might be required to prioritise certain positions over others. And as per The Mirror, that might mean Andre Onana’s job is safe for now.

The Cameroonian has been hugely error-prone this season, culminating in the United No 1 putting in arguably his worst display in a red shirt in the Europa League quarter-final first leg.

Both Olympique Lyonnais goals came from his mistakes and while he much improved in the second leg, he still conceded four times. And the Portuguese tactician is not impressed and would ideally like to upgrade his goalkeeping options.

Onana safe for now

But given the team’s lack of goals, and quite a few midfielder expected to depart, it is clear that other positions are in urgent need of surgery.

“Andre Onana could be handed a Manchester United lifeline – after manager Ruben Amorim has made strengthening other areas of the team his top priority.

“Amorim has instructed his recruitment staff at Old Trafford to concentrate their efforts on bringing in a number of outfield players, with a striker, two midfielders, a centre-back and at least one wing-back high on his shopping list.”

Rasmus Hojlund has a meagre three goals in the Premier League this season and INEOS want him gone, even if it is on loan, which showcases how desperate they are to improve their striking options.

In the middle of the park, Christian Eriksen is expected to depart while Casemiro might also be on his way even if he is currently in a rich vein of form.

Other areas in more urgent need of reinforcements

Add to this Kobbie Mainoo’s uncertain future, and it is clear to see why the head coach wants a couple of midfielders once the window opens.

At wingback, Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu was signed in January but Diogo Dalot on the right has hardly had a breather and another option is likely to be targeted after the Geovany Quenda deal went sideways.

A left-sided centre-back is another position that needs help with Lisandro Martinez out till next year while Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof are both leaving upon the expiration of their deals.

If Champions League football can be secured, and additional funds can be secured through major player sales, then maybe a new goalkeeper could be on the agenda with Diogo Costa one of the high-profile names on the list of targets.
