Fabrizio Romano: Juventus making progress in Conceicao & Kolo Muani talks

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana continues to be the subject of transfer rumours almost daily, with a contrasting report on links with AS Monaco emerging today.

Yesterday, it came to light that the Ligue 1 side were looking at the United No.1, but Fabrizio Romano poured cold water on those rumours, claiming no concrete approach had been made.

But The Times have a different take on this. Journalist Paul Hirst has claimed that Monaco indeed contacted the player, but not the club.

They have asked Onana’s representatives to keep them informed about the player’s future, with Andre Onana keen to continue at United for now.

Andre Onana in talks with Monaco

“Monaco have approached André Onana’s representatives over a potential move to the Ligue 1 club but the Cameroonian goalkeeper is minded to stay and fight for his place at Manchester United.

“It is understood that Monaco asked Onana’s camp to be kept updated on his situation and that no formal bid has been lodged for the 29-year-old.”

There have been reports that Ruben Amorim is displeased with what he saw from the 29-year-old, who committed high-profile errors both in the Premier League and in Europe.

INEOS have even offered his services to prospective suitors in the Saudi Pro League, though no concrete proposal has been submitted.

In fact, the Cameroon international feels confident that he will be starting in goal in the new season, with The Times even claiming that Onana shares a good rapport with the head coach, who backed him during a difficult moment in his personal life last term.

“Onana appreciated the support that Ruben Amorim, the head coach, showed him towards the end of last season when he gave the goalkeeper time off to spend with his family after his partner was mugged.

United No.1 wants to stay and fight for his place

“Onana looks likely therefore to reject the overtures from Monaco and try to retain his status as United’s No 1.”

While INEOS might be failing to move on one keeper, reserve keeper Altay Bayindir’s future is also up in the air, with the Turk hardly setting the stage alight when called upon last season.

He is eager to return back home, with all four Turkish clubs reportedly turning down the chance to sign him. It remains to be seen if he can earn a move away to a club where he is guaranteed the No.1 jersey.

Should the Turkiye international leave, the Red Devils will be in the market for a backup who can push Onana even more than Bayindir has managed since signing. Now it remains to be seen which keeper the co-owners end up shifting.
