Bruno Fernandes’ success at Manchester United is down to his impressive work rate, so says Ruben Amorim.

Fernandes played a starring role as United swatted aside Premier League strugglers Leicester City 3-0 on Sunday.

The 30-year-old set up goals for Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garncho, reaching 50 Premier League assists in the process, becoming the sixth player to hit the milestone for United.

He then swept in a fine effort from the edge of the box to add further gloss to the win late on.

Since his United debut in February 2020, only Kevin De Bruyne (90) has recorded more assists across all competitions for a side in Europe’s big five leagues than Fernandes (80), with him moving above Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller (79).

Fernandes also moved onto 112 Premier League goal involvements for United, the 10th-most for the club in the competition, surpassing Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy.

“He is a very good player, he is in a good moment, but what I like most is the way he works in every position to help the team,” Amorim told BBC Sport.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Amorim added: “What we see every week [is brilliant]. But the most important thing is the work he puts in every week.”

United are now on a four-game unbeaten streak in the Premier League, and it has been a promising week for the Red Devils.

They drew 1-1 with Arsenal and then followed that result up by beating Real Sociedad to progress to the last eight of the Europa League, with Fernandes netting a hat-trick.

“We can feel that [progress]. Against Arsenal we were a little bit more deep on the pitch, we felt they didn’t have much upfront in terms of pace,” Fernandes told Sky Sports.

“I think you can see some progress, but that has to go on and on. We have important games.

“I want to score many goals as I can as it’s a big part of my game and I need to assist my team-mates. I need to get onto the edge of the box and get goals as it is one of my qualities.”

Leicester, meanwhile, have become the first team in English top-flight history to lose seven straight home league games without scoring, going down by an aggregate score of 18-0 in those fixtures.

Sunday’s defeat leaves them in 19th, nine points from safety with nine games remaining.

“If you look at all the data and numbers of the game it was very even. Putting the ball in the back of the net will get you points,” Ruud van Nistelrooy told BBC Sport.

“We can’t and we won’t give up – we will fight till the end.

“As I said mathematically until it’s impossible we keep going. We want to show that we can score goals, that we can get a clean sheet at this level and pick up points.”
