Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Australian Open crown, ran his Grand Slam hard-court winning streak to 21 matches and joined Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer as third man in the Open Era to win three consecutive hard-court majors.

Rest.

Reigning US Open and Australian Open champion Sinner will not defend his Rotterdam title next month as he needs time to rest and recover after Melbourne.

“After consulting with my team we had to take the difficult decision to withdraw from the ABN AMRO Open,” Sinner said in a statement. “My body needs time to rest after the long run in Australia.

“I have great memories from winning the title in front of amazing crowds at Rotterdam Ahoy last year and hope to be back there soon. I wish Richard [Krajicek] and the whole team a great event.”

A year ago, Sinner stopped Alex de Minaur 7-5, 6-4 in the Rotterdam final.

The 23-year-old Sinner, who is riding a career-best 21-match winning streak, may take a break until Indian Wells, set for March 5-16th.
