Academy director Nick Cox reassures families that job cuts won’t affect academy – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United have sought to reassure families of academy starlets that they remain committed to their development in spite of recent cuts savaging other departments of the club.

Last summer Ineos decided to make 250 job positions redundant in a bid to cut costs at the club.

Staff at United were said to be reeling by the decision and feared more of the same in 2025.

These concerns were proven right when it was announced last month that 200 more jobs would be lost at the club in the latest efforts to reduce the number of people on the payroll.

United estimate that they will save around £25 million through these cuts to various departments.

Nonetheless, The Sun report that United have been keen to stress that the academy won’t be affected by any staff losses.

“United bosses have re-assured parents and players that the academy remains at the heart of the club’s strategy.”

“Academy Director Nick Cox acknowledged it has been an unsettling season given poor results on the pitch for the first team and the difficult decisions being taken to improve the financial position of the club.”

He went on to claim that the development of young players is still “at the heart of our strategy for returning the club to the top of English and European football.”

Cox sought to reassure families of current players and potentially new ones that the academy will still have the money and staff on board to deliver on this promise.

A source claimed, “there’s been an awful lot of negative news coming out of Old Trafford so Nick wanted to try and reassure everyone that United is still the best place for their boys.”

United have undertaken a lot of recent work on their academy during the last few years and this has seen an upturn in form with the club winning the Youth Cup in 2022 and they find themselves in the semi-final this season.

This season has also seen the debuts of Toby Collyer, Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi with a collection of young starlets all waiting in line to make their first appearance in the not so distant future.
