Ranking the Contenders to Replace Dusan Vlahovic This Summer –

It’s no secret that Chelsea’s new approach to transfers revolves around young talents that can be snapped up for cheap and then sold on for big bucks in the future. When looking at the first team squad, there are numerous examples there already, with the likes of Malo Gusto, Renato Veiga, Carney Chukwuemeka, and Marc Guiu the likely candidates to be offloaded in the future. They could also command big fees should they reach their full potential.

While it’s an approach that initially divided opinion in the football world, an increasing amount of pundits and fans are now seeing the thought process behind it. Of course, results on the pitch have certainly helped silence any doubters, with the Blues looking like strong contenders for a Champions League spot and Premier League odds of 66/1 suggesting that even a title win isn’t completely off the table, although most level-headed fans will be looking to next season.

Although critics of Chelsea’s new transfer strategy are currently eating humble pie, a downturn in results could see them gain confidence once again. Thankfully, though, the Blues are in excellent shape at the moment, and fans have plenty to be positive about. As such, the approach to transfers looks set to continue, with the Blues being consistently linked with some of world football’s most promising youngsters.

With an array of young professionals currently lighting up leagues on almost every corner of the globe, let’s assess a selection of youngsters Chelsea could potentially target in the future. We must stress that the club hasn’t necessarily been linked with every player featured on the list, but these emerging prospects certainly fit the profile of the type of players Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital tend to be interested in.

Sverre Nypan (Rosenborg)

A Norwegian prodigy who has already been compared to the likes of Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard, Rosenborg’s Sverre Nypan has been linked with numerous clubs already, including Manchester City and Odegaard’s Gunners. A club that has produced some fine young talent in its time, Sverre Nypan is the next potential star of the Rosenborg conveyor belt. The 18-year-old midfield player has excellent passing ability, is comfortable on the ball in tight areas, is two-footed, and has already influenced numerous games for the Norwegian giants despite his inexperience at senior level. Should Nypan become available in the near future, then Chelsea could be one of many clubs willing to pounce.

Ian Subiabre (River Plate)

The club has already shown that they’re not afraid to dip into the South American market to look for future stars, meaning that Ian Subiabre could potentially pique their interest in the near future. The River Plate junior is just 18 but has already received rave reviews in his homeland, with his natural ability on the ball and his high skill level making him one of River’s most prized assets. Already a first team regular and in a similar mould to the likes of Phil Foden, Ian Subiabre is a player Chelsea fans could enjoy watching at Stamford Bridge in the future.

Jobe Bellingham (Sunderland)

Jobe Bellingham, Jude’s brother, is hot property right now. The Sunderland talent isn’t far behind his brother in terms of all-round ability and is therefore a player numerous clubs in Europe are monitoring. The Black Cats are likely to hold on to the former Birmingham City player in January, although they could easily have their resolve tested in the summer. Comfortable playing as a central striker or as a box-to-box midfielder, Bellingham’s ceiling appears to be extremely high.

Vitor Roque (Barcelona)

Barcelona have produced some of the world’s best players over the years. Another potential star on their books at the moment is Brazilian Vitor Roque, who is currently on loan at Spanish club Real Betis and shining on a weekly basis. Roque has plenty of strengths and some areas where he needs to make improvements, but he is a striker with clear ability. Having progressed through Cruzeiro’s esteemed academy before being snapped up by Athletico Paranaense and then joining the Spanish giants after impressing in Brazil, Roque could look to depart Spain in the summer should Barcelona be faced with numerous offers for a player with immense potential. Roque would certainly jump at the chance to play in the Premier League, and with Chelsea’s evident need for strikers to compete alongside the likes of Nicolas Jackson, Vitor Roque could be a player the club considers going for.

Benjamin Cremaschi (Inter Miami)

As one of the finest young talents in Major League Soccer right now, you can almost guarantee that Boehly and his recruitment team are fully aware of Benjamin Cremaschi. The Inter Miami prospect is currently learning from the likes of Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets, with the midfielder showing improvements on a regular basis. Should he continue developing at the rate he is currently showing, then Chelsea could soon launch a bid for an American youngster with huge potential.

Lewis Miley (Newcastle United)

At the tender age of just 18, Lewis Miley has already made a big impression after playing for Newcastle United in the Champions League. With his game time fairly limited this season, though, Miley could look to depart the club soon. Miley’s “brilliant brain” has been praised by Toon Army boss Eddie Howe on numerous occasions, but getting picked ahead of the likes of Joelinton and Bruno Guimarães on a consistent basis is tough for any 18-year-old. Throw in Newcastle’s financial issues and their need to sell players and Miley could become a viable option for Chelsea in the next year or so. English talent like Miley certainly doesn’t come cheap, though, but he’s a player who clearly has huge potential.

Other youngsters Chelsea could potentially target include Kenneth Adejenughure (Liefering). Mathys Tel (Bayern Munich), Guillaume Restes (Toulouse), Assan Ouedraogo (RB Leipzig), Moisés Paniagua (Always Ready), and Amara Diouf (Generation Foot).
