Manchester United’s PSR situation forced INEOS to put up their most promising academy graduates for sale during the January window.

Not too long ago, both Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho were considered untouchable. Their status was revoked, with Chelsea eyeing the duo while Napoli was interested in the Argentine.

The Italian side, who lost Kvara Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain, identified the 20-year-old as his perfect replacement.

With Garnacho struggling to find a place in Ruben Amorim’s plans, he was considering jumping ship but Napoli saw both their bids get rejected.

Garnacho did not join Napoli in January

INEOS were holding out for €70 million while the Serie A side refused to go over €55 million. As a result, the deal did not materialise and the United No 17 ended up staying at Old Trafford.

His hard work and impact off the bench seemed to have won over the head coach but his form in front of goal has certainly taken a beating while his attitude has also come under the scanner.

With INEOS still hoping to earn pure profit through the sale of academy stars, there remains the likelihood of the Argentina international leaving in the summer should a suitable offer arrive.

But as relayed by Area Napoli, the Naples outfit are unlikely to come back for him in the summer given the demands of Garnacho’s agent.

“It is unlikely that Manna will return to the fray for Manchester United’s Garnacho: Napoli was very annoyed by the attitude of the Argentine’s managers.”

They will not return in the summer

Reportedly, the agent, after having accepted Napoli’s initial proposal, significantly raised the demands while also asking for a higher commission, something that did not please the Neapolitan management.

United might not need to offload the Carrington graduate any longer, especially with rumours of Mainoo being set to reject the club’s latest contract offer and leave.

With Marcus Rashford also set to leave and Mason Greenwood’s sale around the corner, INEOS will have all the pure profit they need to balance the books.

Fans would ideally like to see both Mainoo and Garnacho stay and it will be intriguing to see how all of this pans out over the course of the summer window.
