Padraig Harrington, a famous Irish golfer, in an interesting conversation with the media, decided to joke around talking about the ‘Happy Gilmore’ swing, while stressing that hurling was an important factor in perfecting such a swing. However, the well-known face of golf scene is not happy considering that he did not get a cameo role in the continuation of this great movie, which amazed golf fans back in 1996, when Adam Sandler as the main character really caused various reactions on the golf scene.

Speaking about the ‘Happy Gilmore’ swing with the run, the experienced golfer stressed that such things are natural to him, considering that he grew up playing hurling.

“Look, it’s second nature to me; I grew up playing hurling, so I’ve never had a second thought about doing a Happy Gilmore, running up, hitting it,” Harrington said, as quoted by Irish Independent.

“I did consider using it in tournament play. I tried to tidy it up a bit. So if you look at my old Happy Gilmores, they are full out 130-mile an hour golf swings.

I did try and tidy it up to see if I could maybe use it on the golf course. I could swing faster, but I just didn’t quite get the strike of a normal shot, so it wasn’t really worth it.”

Harrington shares his views.

Harrington explained that he hasn’t used the “Happy Gilmore” swing in a long time, but that once he tries it, he can pull it off without a problem. He stressed that there is a great Irish sport, hurling, which comes naturally to him as it involves swinging the stick at the ball, often while someone is trying to hit you.

According to him, hurling helps develop confidence and skills that are useful for golf as well. He believes every child should try hurling, as it helps develop proper movement and rotation in the golf swing.

Harrington points out that the swing is beneficial to golf, and that everyone should try and perfect their own version of the swing to improve.
