APELDOORN DAY 1

QUOTE OF THE DAYFemke Bol: “It (the gold) is something really amazing. I am so proud of our team for doing so well today. If this was only the first night and the first gold, I’m excited for what’s to come for the rest of the team this weekend. With the crowd like this, it doesn’t feel like just a training. Even though it’s at our home track. Of course you have to run smart, because it was my first race. I felt a bit more uncertain than usual, but with this amazing team around me I knew we could achieve great things.I heard the crowd when Nick overtook and was like ‘ok, they are loud’. I won’t be doing much the next days, actually. I think I will have a nice bath, we have a nice bath in the hotel(laughs). And I will support the others.”

RESULT OF THE DAYInaugural European Indoor title for Netherlands, with finishing Femke Bol, in the mixed 4x400m relay in 3:15.63, just 0.13 seconds behind a target for the European record.

SURPRISE OF THE DAYIsrael’s Jonathan Kapitolnik, who cleared 231 earlier this year and is second in European lists, failed to advance to the final after missing 218 three-times. Surprise was the low level with 218 in first attempt enough to qualify. Marta Zenoni with 4:03.59 not qualified from 1500 m heats.
