Recent reports have claimed Real Madrid were interested in signing Virgil van Dijk as a free agent when his contract with Liverpool expires at the end of the season, but according to Marca, the 15-time European champions have NOT instigated any talks with the representatives of the 33-year-old defender.
There have been multiple reports that Real are pushing hard to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract situation is identical to that of Van Dijk, but the Netherlands captain is said not to be of interest due to his age as they plan to build a squad for the long term.
Van Dijk has stated on numerous occasions that he’d love to remain at Liverpool, but he has also refused to drop any hints over a potential breakthrough in the negotiations over a new deal. In all competitions, he has 306 matches played in a Red shirt, with 26 goals and 13 assists to his name.
