Real Madrid are looking to strengthen their defensive ranks this summer, both the centre-back and the fullback department. According to Diario AS, one of their primary targets for the central area of the defence is Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite.
The 22-year-old has proven a very capable defender in the Premier League, and at the age of just 22, bright future seems to be on the cards for him. He was previously linked heavily with several clubs, most notably Manchester United.
His age and talent make good reasons for Real to give serious consideration to the possibility of signing him, but Everton will apparently demand a fee of around €70 million for his services, which is deemed a bit too steep in the Spanish capital.
Moving for Virgil van Dijk, one of the best in the position in the world and soon to be out of contract, is another option for Los Blancos, but the Liverpool captain turns 34 in the summer, and the 15-time European champions are looking to build a team for the future.
