Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight interim champion, Carlos Condit, and current Heavyweight kingpin, Jon Jones, spent a lot of years training on the same mats. Both fighters were longterm members of the Jackson-Wink Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico, so the duo spent a lot of time in each other’s vicinity while preparing for fights at the highest level.

Condit, who retired from professional competition in September 2021, recently went on The Jaxxon Podcast and discussed training with Jones. After Quinton Jackson asked if “The Natural Born Killer” had ever seen anyone get the best of “Bones,” Condit told the story of how a a former Welterweight named Adlan Amagov beat up the duo back-to-back.

“Well, the same guy f—ked me up the round right before too,” Condit explained to Jackson. “One morning, I think was like a like Tuesday morning like 9 AM sparring. We’re in there tipping and tap and we get this dude, you ever heard of Adlan Amagov? He’s Chechen. He fought in the UFC a couple times, and I think his last fight they carred his opponent out in a stretcher. He finished a number of guys, he was like spinning back kick guy. He f—ked me up and then I think a round or two later, hit Jon with the spinning back kick, and he dropped him.”

There have been rumors about Amagov dropping Jones back in the day for years now, but I cannot recall a firsthand source like Condit admitting it in public. The Russian fighter fought twice in the Octagon as a Welterweight, winning both matches before leaving the promotion. A combat Sambo ace, he would only compete once more before retiring in 2016.

Amagov was already a great “what if?” in MMA, but this certainly adds to his legend. Throughout his 17-fight pro career, he faced the likes of Robbie Lawler, Anthony Smith, and Aleksei Oleinik, fighting from every division between Heavyweight and 170-pounds.

As for Jones, getting dropped in sparring is a fact of life for fighters who train long enough with good opposition. “Bones” spent years and years in the gym and has surely had some tough days, but in actual competition, he remains nearly perfect.

Insomnia

Dricus Du Plessis is the premier example of tactics over technique. He does so many smart things in such a dumb way, I cannot help but love it.

What did she mean by this?

At least once a month, I’ll write something along the lines of “Fighter A has to punish Fighter B for their takedown attempts.” Zhang Weili was a perfect example of how to do so!

The two biggest Lightweights I’m aware of are going to take lumps out of each other.

No amount of Ilia Topuria pad footage is too much.

Slips, rips, and KO clips

A classic bit of look low kick high!

I don’t know anything about Anna Crutchfield, but I’m going to try to remember her name — these are heavy shots from a Strawweight!

As clean a spinning kick as you’ll find.

The future of finance is a wild world. No, I don’t know what this means.
