It was tough day at the office Wednesday for the two Canadians competing in the WTA 1000 tournament in Doha.
In singles, Leylah Annie Fernandez saw her run end in the Round of 16 at the hands of American Amanada Anisimova who earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory, her first win in three tries against the Canadian. Fernandez has posted two consecutive strong results in Doha after reaching the quarter-finals last year.

In doubles, top seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe didn’t enjoy the return to the Tour they were hoping for after reaching the Australian Open semi-finals as they were eliminated out of the gate 6-2, 6-1 by Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider.
Both Fernandez and Dabrowski will be back in action next week at the WTA 1000 event in Dubai.
