Now that the 2024 NFL season is officially over, it’s time for everyone to turn their focus to the 2025 NFL offseason. After all, the NFL draft and free agency will be here before you know it. I’ll be honest. I’m excited because all I care for is football. But for some sports fans, there’s more to life than just the National Football League.
For some, this is a time to shift focus to other sports, most notably major league baseball. And If you’re a Marlins fan — who also loves the Dolphins — opening day is set to be unlike anything that’s come before.
In a recent press release, the Miami Marlins announced that this year’s Opening Day will now be called “Opening Dade,” with tons of festivities and surprises for fans who plan to attend the March 27th matchup vs. the Pittsburgh Pirates. Most iconic, however, is that the G.O.A.T, Dan Marino, is set to throw out the first pitch against his hometown team. Here’s what Marino said in a press release during Saturday’s announcement.
“I’m honored by the invitation to throw the ceremonial first pitch for the Miami Marlins on Opening Day,” said Dan Marino. “It will be very special for me to return to the site of many memories and where the community made it home for me. Being back for this special moment, surrounded by the great fans of South Florida.”
Marino, 53, was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 4th round (99th overall) of the 1979 Major League Baseball Draft. He would not sign his contract and would later be drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the first round of the 1984 NFL Draft. From there, the rest is history!
