Mark Davis Believes Jon Gruden Had His Head ‘Chopped Off’

The Las Vegas Raiders believe they have found themselves the right group to turn things around. Minority owner Tom Brady led the offseason process in hiring new head coach Pete Carroll and GM John Spytek, and of course, at the top of everything is controlling owner Mark Davis.

The Raiders have struggled to maintain any level of success over the past couple of decades, and one reason for that has been a lack of stability at the top. This is something Davis had hoped to bring back when he hired Jon Gruden as the team’s head coach, but of course, he was let go after some concerning e-mails he had sent prior to being hired by the Raiders were leaked.

This is something that still doesn’t sit well with Davis, and he spoke about it during the team’s introductory press conference for Carroll and Spytek. Davis said that Brady brings someone on the football side that would bring the stability he felt he had in Gruden, whom he feels had his head ‘chopped off’ via ESPN:

“Bringing in Tom Brady was bringing in somebody on the football side that I had been lacking having here in the organization,” Davis told reporters. “Back in I guess it was ’18, with Jon Gruden. He was somebody that I brought in and really expected to be that person on the football side that would bring stability to the organization. He had a 10-year contract and all that, and his head was chopped off. And we were put in a really bad position as an organization.”

But despite that, Davis now feels he has the right circle of people now between Brady, Carroll and Spytek and is looking forward to seeing them turn things around:

“We want to build something here and again, that’s been the process and that mindset all along,” Davis said. “Like I said, it got offset or kind of blown up when Jon Gruden was sent away and so we’ve been trying to get it right since then and we’ll see, but I’ve got patience to get it right, and I think we’ve got the people now — again I’ve always felt that — results are what speak to me and that’s what we’ll see.”

It will be a process, but the top of the Raiders organization all seem to be on the same page. Now, it will be a matter of them putting the right pieces together to bring success back to this franchise.

Pete Carroll leaning on Tom Brady to help Raiders build around QB position

The biggest issue for the Raiders remains the quarterback position and finding the right guy under center. And new coach Pete Carroll plans to lean on Tom Brady for that.

Carroll said that the goal is for the Raiders to build around the quarterback position, and he plans on leaning on Brady, whom he called the greatest of all time, for his insights in that process.
