Travis Kelce Gets Extremely Blunt on Chiefs-Officiating Controversy During Super Bowl 59 Opening Night

Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs are set to play in their fifth Super Bowl in the last six seasons. They will face the Philadelphia Eagles in a rematch of the thrilling Super Bowl 57, which the Chiefs won 38-35.

Kelce spoke to the media on the opening night of the upcoming Super Bowl, and he brought up an important question for the media.

Travis Kelce Questions Media’s Narrative Around Referees

Throughout the Chiefs’ dynastic run, fans have raised questions about Kansas City constantly benefiting from the referees’ decisions. The same thing happened after Kelce and his team defeated the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game.

Some media members have also started talking about how the Chiefs are being favored by the refs, and the star tight end is not happy with the narrative about his team.

“If I could ask the media one question? Why are you guys leaning into this whole ref thing?” Kelce asked. “You know what I mean, like, why are you guys leaning into it? That’s all I got.”

Such speculations constantly undermine Kelce and the Chiefs’ success, and the players’ frustration is valid, as they have worked quite hard to be this successful.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell recently addressed the narrative about the Chiefs getting helped by the refs. He called it “ridiculous” and praised how well the game is being officiated under immense pressure.

The last time these two teams played each other in the Super Bowl, the Chiefs won the game after a late holding was called on James Bradberry IV, which the Eagles player admitted was the right decision. However, the fans haven’t stopped arguing about it since then. Hopefully, this upcoming matchup will be free of controversial calls, as neither team’s fanbase should be able to find excuses for why their team lost.

Kelce Keeps the Door Open To Continue Playing for the Chiefs

There have been rumors of Kelce retiring after this season, as the tight end is already 35 years old and has already cemented his place in the Pro Football Fame. The Chiefs star addressed his future and hinted that he might continue playing for the team beyond this season.

Kelce mentioned how he wants to see himself playing football in three years due to his love for the game and the Chiefs. The 10-time Pro Bowler has one year left on his current contract, so it would be fair to at least expect him to play next season.

#Chiefs TE Travis Kelce was asked about the future of his football career:

“Where will I be in 3 years? Hopefully still playing football…For the most part, I plan on being a Kansas City Chief and playing football.”#SuperBowlLIX | #ChiefsKingdom | @KSHB41 pic.twitter.com/31IIdB3NYy

Kelce is the heart and soul of the Chiefs. Having him on the team will help Kansas City to build more toward their successful run. The Chiefs’ offense has been set up for success for years to come due to players like Rashee Rice (who is currently injured) and Xavier Worthy.

They will be Patrick Mahomes’ go-to guys once Kelce retires, but the tight end expressing the desire to play longer will give them more time to transition into leaders. Many expected the Chiefs to fall off a cliff after Tyreek Hill was traded, but Kelce’s presence, as well as Mahomes, Andy Reid, Chris Jones, and Steve Spagnuolo, helped the team to sustain success.

By the time Kelce is done, the likes of Trent McDuffie, Leo Chenal, and Jaylen Watson, along with the two emerging receivers, will be there to set the tone for other younger players.

Brett Veach has done a fantastic job of building the Chiefs’ roster, and they have given full flexibility to Kelce to decide what he wants to do, as the team will be positioned to deal with whatever comes their way.
