The Houston Rockets and Fred VanVleet have mutual interest in extending their partnership, sources tell Jake Fischer. VanVleet signed with the Rockets from the Toronto Raptors during the 2023 offseason on a three-year, $130 million deal with a team option for 25-26 worth $44.9 million.
The Rockets could decline their option on VanVleet and negotiate a multi-year deal. Houston’s payroll will become more expensive next season as extensions for Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun begin. The Rockets will also have key parts of their core such as Jabari Smith Jr. and Amen Thompson come due for extensions in 2025 and 2026 with their presumptive raises beginning during those following years. VanVleet is represented by Rich Paul and Erika Ruiz of Klutch Sports.
VanVleet is averring 14.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.9 assists in 35.9 minutes over 43 games this season for the Rockets.
