The Pro Bowl rosters have been finalizes following withdrawals from Super Bowl participants and other players who have been forced to/decided to call it a season due to injuries, and there’s a decent presence of current and former Seahawks.
As mentioned earlier on Tuesday, the Seattle Seahawks will have three players included in the Pro Bowl Games instead of two. Devon Witherspoon was initially the lone participant, but both Leonard Williams and second-year wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba have been added as alternates.
Speaking of alternates, former Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has made the AFC Pro Bowl roster after the Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen withdrew from the competition. This is Wilson’s first Pro Bowl appearance since he was traded by the Seahawks back in 2022. Including alternate selections, this is Wilson’s 10th Pro Bowl appearance of his career.
Having missed the first seven games of the regular season due to injury, Wilson threw 16 touchdowns and 5 interceptions over his 11 starts with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The bulk of his better stats came during Pittsburgh’s 6-1 start before it all came crashing down with a five-game losing streak between the regular season and playoffs. I think we know neither he nor Drake Maye, the other AFC Pro Bowl QB alternate with Lamar Jackson out, had what would constitute “Pro Bowl” caliber seasons. I’m not sure how much longer the Pro Bowl format will live, to be honest.
Wilson is an impending free agent and if he does not re-sign with the Steelers, it’s been speculated that he could reunite with Pete Carroll and play for the Las Vegas Raiders.
Another former Seahawk set to play in the Pro Bowl is Washington Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner, who replaced Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Zack Baun due to Baun making the Super Bowl at Wagner’s expense.
The Pro Bowl Games will be televised on ABC and ESPN from Orlando on Sunday, Feb. 2 from noon to 3 PM PT.
