If you have received an opportunity for a second head coaching job interview, you have clearly done something right.

Brian Schottenheimer, formerly the Seattle Seahawks’ offensive coordinator, has now been named the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. On Wednesday, Schottenheimer was granted a second interview for the position, and the Cowboys made the hiring official on Friday.

Schottenheimer was Seattle’s offensive coordinator from 2018-2020, overseeing a potent Seahawks offense that set a franchise record by scoring 459 points during the 2020 season. Despite this, however, the offense struggled over the final weeks of the season, as Seattle fell to the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card round. Schottenheimer was fired after 2020 and spent one year as a pass game coordinator with the Jacksonville Jaguars under Urban Meyer.

Over Schottenheimer’s two seasons as the Cowboys’ OC, play-calling was done by then-head coach Mike McCarthy. With this in mind, it will be interesting to see how Schottenheimer will do while being in charge of both sides of the ball. This is his first head coaching job in his entire career.

The Seahawks will not face Dallas in 2025, but they will meet in 2026, creating a chance for Seattle to face Schottenheimer head-to-head (provided he is not fired after one season).

Cowboys fans do not appear enthused with this decision.
