Hero – Barry FryThe name Barry Fry is well-known by football fans of a certain age. He was a maverick, unique in many ways and it is safe to say that there will never be a manager quite like him again!
Peterborough United was Fry’s final club and he spent ten years at London Road, joining the club in 1996 from Birmingham City.
During his time at Peterborough, Fry oversaw two relegations (including one in his first full season at the club!) and one promotion. He featured in a documentary called ‘There’s only one Barry Fry’ , which showed just how much of a character he really was.
After deciding to call time on his managerial career, Fry became Peterborough’s Chairman and Director of Football.
Villain – Ron AtkinsonAnother unique name in the world of football management, Ron Atkinson comes in as Peterborough United’s villain. The former Manchester United manager was invited to the club to assist Peterborough’s caretaker manager Steve Bleasdale and this was covered in a six-part documentary series for Sky.
Tensions flared between Atkinson and Bleasdale and showed the club in crisis. It was seen as a low point in the club’s history but better things were around the corner after the documentary was broadcast.
