The first full offseason of the Mike Macdonald era is underway for the Seattle Seahawks, and there is no shortage of debate regarding how the Hawks should address the issues on the offensive line before training camp starts.

The offensive line has long been a topic ripe for heated debate when it comes to the Seahawks, from the defensive tackle conversion projects to low cost free agent acquisitions to draft picks thrown into the fire early, there has been no shortage of names thrown at the position group. However, there has been a shortage of cap space allocated to the group, with Seattle consistently coming in near the bottom of the league in terms of cap dollars spent on the offensive line during the tenure of general manager John Schneider.

And while his attempts at signing free agent offensive linemen have often misfired or backfired, one of the most successful free agent offensive lineman Schneider has signed during his tenure was recently hired as offensive line coach by one of the top two programs in the PAC-12.

WSU is hiring Mike Iupati as offensive line coach, source confirms. Cougars are looking to add a co-OL coach with Iupati, who is accepting his first full-time coaching job, but unclear who that will be.

Iupati was a first-round pick out of Idaho. Played 11 NFL seasons.

As noted, the position with the Cougars will be the first full-time coaching position for Mike Iupati since retiring from the NFL, and will likely represent a significant transition for the former All-Pro. Thus, the interest in an assistant with prior experience coaching and recruiting is completely understood, even if it would seem that Iupati is more than qualified given his on field resume.
