The Chicago Bears have requested to talk to New York Giants assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Mike Kafka with regard to filling their head teaching emptiness, experiences NFL Community’s Ian Rapoport.

Kafka, 37, has been the Giants’ offensive coordinator since Brian Daboll took over as head coach in 2022. He beforehand labored as Patrick Mahomes’ quarterback coach in Kansas Metropolis beneath head coach Andy Reid.

Kafka can be an ideal match for the Bears as he’s each a Chicago native and a former star quarterback at Northwestern College.

That is the third offseason that he’s been using the top teaching carousel. He went on a number of interviews over the previous two years and was edged out of jobs for a number of groups, together with the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals.

Because the Giants’ offensive coordinator this season, Kafka didn’t have play-calling tasks as they had been taken over by Daboll.

As late as final week, Kakfa was requested about his future plans.

“Clearly, I really like being right here and I really like working for Dabes and everyone,” Kafka mentioned.

“Mike’s been a fantastic teammate, good coach, good pal. Does an excellent job for us,” mentioned Daboll.

Daboll continues to be waffling about his function as a play-caller going ahead after co-owner John Mara spoke about it on Monday. If Kafka goes, Daboll should discover one other coach to name the performs for him.
