Carson Palmer is taking on as the top soccer coach at his alma mater, with Santa Margarita Catholic Excessive Faculty in Orange County, California, making his hiring official on Friday.

Palmer, who turns 45 later this month, performed at Santa Margarita within the late Nineteen Nineties and led the Eagles to consecutive CIF Southern Part titles. From there, he enrolled at USC, gained the Heisman Trophy in 2002 and was the No. 1 choice of the 2003 NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.

“Santa Margarita Soccer is worked up to announce the hiring of former Eagle and Heisman Trophy winner, Carson Palmer as our new head soccer coach,” the varsity posted to social media.

“As head coach, Palmer goals to construct a program that emphasizes not solely athletic efficiency but additionally tutorial success and character growth,” the varsity continued. “His imaginative and prescient consists of making a tradition of onerous work, self-discipline, and perseverance that prepares student-athletes for each their athletic and tutorial futures.”

The Orange County Register reported that Palmer was a voluntary assistant coach for the varsity’s freshman workforce within the 2023 season. His son, Fletcher, was the quarterback of the freshman squad.

Palmer’s first sport on the helm of Santa Margarita within the 2025 season might be towards neighboring Mission Viejo, coached by one other former USC and NFL quarterback, Rob Johnson, the Los Angeles Instances reported.

Palmer completed his NFL profession with 46,247 yards, 294 touchdowns and 187 interceptions, with a profession completion share of 62.5. He led the Arizona Cardinals to a 13-3 file and a spot within the NFC Championship Recreation throughout an MVP-caliber 2015 season. That was the furthest he went within the postseason.
