James Pearce has stated that talks are in progress concerning a possible new contract for a Liverpool participant who’s ‘comfortable and settled’ on Merseyside.

The futures of Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been the topic of mass hypothesis, with their respective offers all expiring subsequent June and no signal of any settlement being struck imminently, though Paul Joyce reported this week that discussions are ongoing in that regard.

Fortunately, negotiations with considered one of their Anfield teammates look like progressing with far much less drama.

Pearce: Konate is ‘comfortable and settled’ at Liverpool

Pearce responded to quite a few readers’ queries in a Liverpool mailbag for The Athletic on Thursday, through which he was inevitably requested concerning the contract conditions of Salah, Van Dijk and Trent.

Whereas he supplied little clue as as to whether or not these could be resolved quickly, the journalist gave a much more encouraging replace about one other participant who’s in discussions over a brand new deal at Anfield.

He outlined: “The one different precedence is Ibrahima Konate, whose deal runs till 2026. Talks are underway and I don’t envisage any points there. He’s comfortable and settled at Liverpool. He’s in the most effective type of his Anfield profession and at 25, his finest years are forward of him.”

Konate has been rejuvenated for Liverpool this season

Whereas most Liverpool followers could be craving for the conditions concerning Salah, Van Dijk and Trent to be sorted first, and with good cause given the slender window for renewal, it’s pleasing to listen to that talks with Konate look like progressing easily.

As Pearce rightly says, the Frenchman has been thriving since getting again into the beginning XI below Arne Slot this season, rating second within the squad for aerial duels received (2.5) and clearances made (3.6) per recreation (WhoScored).

The 25-year-old has delivered some glorious performances of late – most notably within the 2-2 draw at title rivals Arsenal in late October – and he appears to be like vastly rejuvenated after a below-par end to final time period, when he’d misplaced his place within the group to Jarell Quansah.

With Konate seemingly comfortable to resume at Liverpool and negotiations showing to be going properly, hopefully that is one contract state of affairs that the Anfield hierarchy can get sorted with far better haste than the continuing sagas surrounding Salah, Van Dijk and Trent.
