Manchester United’s plans for a brand new Previous Trafford will make Manchester the “finest soccer metropolis on this planet”, mayor Andy Burnham believes.

It was introduced this week {that a} taskforce, which incorporates Burnham, will discover choices for the way forward for United’s well-known dwelling.

United are understood to favour a totally new stadium, with renovations of the present Previous Trafford considered each costly and problematic.

It has been reported that United hope to regenerate the encompassing space, replicating the adjustments to Manchester’s east facet since rivals Metropolis moved into the Etihad Stadium in 2003.

“You would make an argument that that is the largest metropolis in world soccer 1710016703 due to the 2 golf equipment we have now bought inside it,” Burnham advised BBC Sport.

“If the bold imaginative and prescient comes by means of, both refurbished or new construct, there could be little doubt about that.”

The taskforce is anticipated to announce its suggestions within the second half of the 12 months, however Burnham thinks both a brand new stadium or redevelopment of the present Previous Trafford would do wonders for the town.

“If on the west of Better Manchester you have got United on the coronary heart of a brand new campus of services that hyperlinks to Media Metropolis and the east of the town you have got Manchester Metropolis, who proceed to construct out from the Etihad with a brand new large indoor enviornment getting in there, simply take into consideration that,” he mentioned.

“No different metropolis on this planet could be arrange by way of its soccer infrastructure to Manchester. No-one would come shut. For this reason I’ll give this taskforce every little thing we have to assist as a result of the advantages to our city-region are large if we unlock them. It isn’t for present.”

And he added: “What we’re speaking about is a posh regeneration scheme that might be the largest within the north of England in our lifetime, and why as mayor of Better Manchester would I not need that?

“If I am trustworthy the extra bold the membership is the higher it’s for us, as a result of then the advantages will come out to our residents for many years to come back.”
