With Oleksandr Usyk set to rematch Daniel Dubois with the undisputed heavyweight title on the line this weekend, DAZN releases their face-to-face sit down and conversation with one another. A stern and focused Dubois wasn’t interested in rehashing much from their first fight as he looks to turn this around for himself this weekend. Dubois on whether now is his time to shine against Usyk
“You could say that but I don’t want to even put it down to just him being an old man. I’ve got to prove myself and bring chaos in the ring. What I bring, the force I have will be what’s needed, really. But I stand more to gain, he’s at the end of his career. I stand more to gain from a win. Getting all the belts, that’s a start for me, really.”
Dubois on how he’ll approach this rematch differently
“Confidence. I’m ready to seize victory. It’s about getting victory, seriously. I’ve worked hard for it and now we’re going to cause chaos in the ring and restore it with order with victory. So that’s my mindset.
“I’ve come on since [the first fight], I’ve resurrected myself so just ready for a new beginning.”
Usyk on whether Dubois is the biggest puncher he’s faced
“I think no. Maybe it’s Derek [Chisora]. Crazy Derek, yeah.”
Usyk on if he was surprised he stopped Dubois with the punch he landed
“No. It’s not surprise for me because my jab was hard.”
Usyk on whether he would’ve beat the count if Dubois’ low blow was ruled a legal punch
“Yes, of course. I recover, 100%. It was hard because my coach tell me ‘hey, Alex, whoa, whoa, whoa.’ It was pain, but it’s not like a body [shot]. It’s X, it’s different.”
