Rodrigo De Paul, the Argentine midfielder, is set to join Inter Miami and will team up with Lionel Messi, the club’s star forward. According to The Athletic, the 31-year-old has agreed on a four-year contract and will arrive immediately, forgoing preseason training with Atlético Madrid.

The decision to move to MLS was reportedly finalized during the FIFA Club World Cup, signaling a shift in De Paul’s priorities toward long-term player development and alignment with Messi’s influence . While Atlético is discussing a fee that could reach €15 million—well below his €25 million market value—both clubs appear motivated to conclude the transfer soon .

Journalist Gastón Edul confirmed on X that Inter Miami has made a formal bid, and De Paul is seriously considering the move. Edul also emphasized that De Paul’s willingness to join only if Messi remains in Miami highlights the close bond between the players.

This move would add considerable quality to Miami’s midfield, which already houses experienced leaders like Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba. With De Paul aboard, Inter Miami enhances its bid for MLS dominance and positions itself as a key factor in Messi’s World Cup preparations in 2026.
