Trevoh Chalobah deserves so much respect for keeping on task

There’s a situation brewing this summer that involves Trevoh Chalobah and his Chelsea future.

Trev is one of our own, an academy graduate who has successfully now made over 70 appearances for his beloved childhood club. Imagine the feeling he would have got last night playing a huge part in helping Chelsea win the Club World Cup? It truly means something to him.

Think back to recent times when he was disgracefully sent to the U21s to train with them as the club tried to force him out ahead of a loan move to Crystal Palace. But then suddenly, they decided they needed him, and recalled him from that loan move to help Chelsea have a decent end to the season.

Chalobah, never moaned once or kicked up a fuss. Chelsea called, and he came back to help his beloved club. What a guy. What a person. He deserves SO much respect for that.

But in what was a huge game for Chelsea and against the best team in the world (well, before we beat them that was), against some of the best attackers in the world, Enzo Maresca opted to start Trevoh Chalobah because he trusts him and rates him so much. Imagine that? What a turn around. What a moment.

Trev’s brother, Nathaniel, on Instagram!

Should Trev be our regular starting centre back alongside Levi Colwill going forward? He’s certainly made a claim for it. But I know one thing he should not be and that is sold this summer. Absolutely not.

If anyone is sold it should be the injury prone Wesley Fofana, as well as Benoit Badiashile. But even if we sign another new centre back, which we still want to, we absolutely must be keeping Trev. He is superb, he is an academy graduate, he is a solid total defender, and he is now one of our most experienced players at the age of 26 and brings so much more than just quality on the ball.

He just quietly goes about his business but I can bet you one thing, and that is that not many strikers around the world would want to play against Trev right now who is in the form of his life.

I absolutely love seeing this, and there are many lessons to be learned here, mostly around respect and how you treat people.
