Meet the Finalists

Amanda Anisimova

Age: 23

Nationality: American

Best Wimbledon Result To Date: Quarter-finals

In what was a first win over a world number 1, Amanda Anisimova is making her first appearance in a Grand Slam final after coming out on top against Aryna Sabalenka 6-4 4-6 6-4.  After taking two years away from the sport to prioritise her mental health, the 23-year-old is back once again showing all the signs of a top tennis player that she showed as a junior.

Iga Swiatek

Age: 24

Nationality: Poland

Best Wimbledon Result To Date: Quarter-finals

Iga Swiatek has won five Grand Slam finals, claiming four French Open victories and one US Open title. She was world number 1 for two years with her reign ended by Sabalenka last year. Her success on hard courts got the 24-year-old known as the ‘Queen of Clay’ with grass courts the outlier until this year following some training on the surface. She won the junior Wimbledon title in 2018 and is back looking to do the same in the Ladies singles.

Anisimova vs Swiatek Preview

This is the second time both Anisimova and Swiatek will meet in a final, with the first being back in 2016 in the Junior Fed Cup Finals. Now, it is the final of a Grand Slam.

It is looking to be a resurgence of form from Iga Swiatek on the grass following a disappointing campaign that hasnt seen her reach a final since winning the French Open last year. Swiatek is yet to lose a final, and given her experience in the latter stages of tournaments, does have the upper hand and will head into the final a favourite. While Anisimova may be a first time finalist, she has more firepower and no pressure behind her. The time she has taken away from the sport has only seen the American come back stronger, making the Queen’s final last month, too!

Will experience come into play in a final of this magnitude, first final nerves, or no pressure prevail? Tune in on Saturday to find out.
