Novak’s run at this year’s Wimbledon has come to an end in the semi-finals.
Tournament top seed Jannik Sinner defeated seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-4, in a contest that lasted one hour and 55 minutes.
The match started well for Novak, who won his first service game without losing a point. But as the first set went on, Sinner took control. He returned Novak’s serve very well, picked up the pace at the right times, and with two breaks of serve, took the set 6-3.
In the second set, Novak still couldn’t find his rhythm. The Italian continued to play solid from the baseline and made the most of his chances. One break was enough for him to win the second set 6-3.
There was a moment of hope for Novak in the third set. He broke his opponent’s serve early and took a 3-0 lead, but his level of play then suddenly dropped. Sinner stayed calm, quickly turned things around winning five games in a row, and soon finished the match to reach his first Wimbledon final.
Match statistics: aces (12-12), double faults (0-2), winners (27-36), unforced errors (28-17), total points won (70-95).
In the Championship match on Sunday, Sinner will meet two-time defending titlist Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard defeated Taylor Fritz in four sets 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (6).
Nole’s next tournament is yet to be announced.
