According to Paul Joyce of The Times, Jordan Henderson is set to join Brentford, having opted not to trigger a one-year extension option on his contract at Ajax.
The 35-year-old midfielder had plenty of options abroad and in England, including a return to newly promoted boyhood club Sunderland. However, he has chosen to join Brentford and play for the team under the command of Keith Andrews, who has succeeded Thomas Frank as the head coach there.
Brentford have just sold Christian Norgaard to Arsenal and need an experienced man in the middle of the park to fill the gap. Few fit that description as well as the man who spent over 12 years at Liverpool, succeeding Steven Gerrard as the captain there in 2015 and lifting the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, the Premier League, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup trophies for the Reds.
Henderson, who also boasts 84 caps as an England international, is set to undergo a medical on Friday, before signing a two-year deal with the Bees.
