Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

NFL top-10 QBs rankings ahead of 2025 season – SB NationNFL quarterbacking has never been more difficult to rank. Outside of the obvious top three QBs, from QB4-12 everything could be seen as incredibly fluid. There are QBs with different flavors and playing styles that make watching the QB spot fun throughout the NFL season. The top three QBs are pretty well known at this point: Kansas City Chiefs’ QB Patrick Mahomes, Baltimore Ravens’ QB Lamar Jackson and Buffalo Bills’ QB Josh Allen are the top three QBs in the NFL and all oscillate between the top three spots during the season. But how do the others shake out below them? Let’s find out. [BLG Note: In addition to ranking the top 10, SB Nation included three honorable mentions … and the reigning Super Bowl MVP somehow did not make the cut.

The Eagles’ NFC East rivals still have huge lingering contract issues as training camp approaches – BGNOffseason contract negotiations aren’t always smooth, not even if you have Howie Roseman as your general manager, but two NFC East teams — not named the Philadelphia Eagles — are facing huge hurdles as they try to re-sign their biggest stars.

2025 NFL offseason grades: Draft, trades, more moves by team – ESPNPhiladelphia Eagles: B+. The Eagles made several trades. I was not a fan of flipping Gardner-Johnson and a sixth-round pick to the Texans for Green and a 2026 fifth-round pick. On the other hand, they did very well to get a fifth-round pick and backup quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson from the Browns in exchange for fellow QB Kenny Pickett. And I thought the deal sending Bryce Huff to the 49ers was a win-win considering Huff clearly didn’t fit in Philadelphia. The Eagles made a few low-key, solid free agent additions in edge rushers Joshua Uche (whose 19% pressure rate in 2022 was the highest in a season since ESPN began tracking the stat in 2017) and Azeez Ojulari, and cornerback Adoree’ Jackson.

Eagles OT Lane Johnson ahead of Year 13: I feel ‘young in heart, but can’t ignore Father Time’ – NFL.comLane Johnson knows he’s on the back nine of his career, but after signing a one-year extension that keeps him with the Eagles through 2027, he’s not considering walking away just yet. By the time that contract expires, Johnson will be tied with a teammate who recently retired — edge rusher Brandon Graham — as the longest-tenured Eagle in franchise history. Johnson doesn’t take such an honor lightly, but also knows he isn’t an ageless marvel. “Yeah, if there’s anybody to end a tie with it would be BG (Brandon Graham). It’s crazy that we had a number of guys who all stayed together for all these years,” Johnson said during an appearance on Good Morning Football Wednesday. “Yeah, it doesn’t feel like No. 13 but here it is. I still feel young in heart, but you can’t ignore Father Time. I’m still having fun and enjoying what I do. I love being around the guys, competing and it’s just something that I really love doing every minute of it.”

Taking a closer look at linebacker competition in 2025 training camp – NBCSPIn his first year as a full-time starter, Nakobe Dean played really well. He was the Eagles’ starting MIKE linebacker and finally fulfilled his potential as a third-round steal from the 2022 draft. He had 128 tackles, 9 TFLs, 3 sacks and an interception in the regular season. Unfortunately, Dean’s season ended in the wild-card round when he tore his patellar tendon against the Packers. This is a significant injury and while Dean has been working hard to rehab, there’s a very good chance he isn’t ready for training camp or the start of the season. He could start on the PUP list and miss at least four games. This is also a contract year for Dean.

Brian Dawkins reacts to his hardest hits – PE.comEagles Legend Brian Dawkins is in the hot seat as he reacts to the hardest hits that he delivered in his Hall of Fame career, as well as the rare quadrafecta that he pulled off in a 2002 game against the Houston Texans. Learn what Dawkins calls “the perfect play.”

Eagles players fight over Joe Burrow’s jersey and a classic song lifts Kirk Cousins past Philly in Season 2 of ‘Quarterback’ – InquirerIn the middle of the game, unseen Eagles players could be heard arguing over who would get Burrow’s jersey. “Hey, hey! Let me get that jersey, fam,” one player said. “No, I want the jersey,” said another player. “You guys can fight over it if you want to,” Burrow responded. The Eagles went on to cruise to a 37-17 victory in Cincinnati, their third during a franchise-best 10-game winning streak that helped propel them to a second Super Bowl title.

Who was the best goal line quarterback in the NFL in 2024? – Mile High ReportJoe Burrow was involved in 74 goal-to-go (GtG) plays as a passer or as a runner in 2024, but only 24 of those resulted in TDs. While that TD number was the highest in the league for goal-to-go plays, his 32.4% TD rate was actually fairly low when you compare to the best goal-to-go QBs in the NFL in 2024. Dak Prescot only had eight goal-to-go plays in 2024 but five of those resulted in a TD – 62.5%. Jalen Hurts had 37 plays and 21 of them went for TDs, but he actually had more runs (22) than passes (15). He did not take a GtG sack in 2024.

Tristan Wirfs to miss start of the season after undergoing surgery – Bucs NationAs far as who could replace Wirfs, the Bucs signed veteran tackle Charlie Heck in the offseason and he figures to have a good shot at being that guy. Heck split time with the Cardinals and 49ers last season where he started two games. He has 23 starts in his career. Hopefully this is something that has been taken care of and not a thing that could linger on and cost the all pro left tackle more time. We will see when Wirfs is back but for the start of the season, the Bucs are going to have to roll without him. [BLG Note: The Eagles play the Bucs in Week 4.]

With 30-year anniversary coming, Sal Paolantonio extends ESPN contract by two years – PFTPaolantonio, a national NFL correspondent for ESPN, will mark his 30-year anniversary with the company on August 1. We’re told that he has recently signed a two-year extension. It will carry him through May 2027. At that time, he’ll be 71.

The Washington Commanders have a new alternate helmet and jersey – Hogs HavenThe Washington Commanders announced last week that a new alternate helmet and uniform were debuting today. The team has been using their current uniforms since Dan Snyder changed the name for a second time, and his wife Tanya helped design the much-maligned lineup. Josh Harris leads the ownership group that bought the team, and reinvigorated the franchise. While he has repeatedly said the team isn’t going back to the Redskins name, he has committed to link the present to the past, and fixing the uniform issue is one of the ways he’s doing it. [BLG Note: The Commanders are posting these like they’re hard … and they’re not.]

Dead money evaluation, Part II: How the Cowboys rank and how it impacts their ability to win games – Blogging The BoysWe’ve mentioned many times that the Eagles, despite all their recent success, are playing with fire. If some of their risky contracts turn into pumpkins, they’re going to be more exposed because of the high-cost financial commitment they have made to them. Pushing money into the future in itself won’t hurt them. And as long as the Eagles are getting good returns for their investments, it will be “all hail to Howie!” However, the moment we start seeing more missteps like the recent Bryce Huff ordeal, that’s when things will start to weigh them down. And considering the Eagles have a large number of contracts with built-in void years, it opens the door for more players to fall into that dreaded “cutting their losses” category, and as we learned yesterday, that is where the dead money hits hurt you. [BLG Note: Funny to see Cowboys fans so jealous of the Eagles now.]

Training camp preview: New York Giants biggest question at tight end – Big Blue ViewThe New York Giants drafted Theo Johnson in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft hoping he would develop into a pass-catching weapon and all-around quality tight end. Even though he may not have been fully ready for the responsibility, the Giants committed to Johnson’s development by starting him from Day 1 last season. Johnson began to reward the Giants’ faith over his final five games of 2024, catching at least three passes in each and totaling 18 receptions in that time. Unfortunately for Johnson and the Giants, his season was cut short due to a Lisfranc injury that cost Johnson the final five games.
