When Real Madrid took the field against Paris Saint-Germain in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup semifinals, expectations were sky-high. Instead, the Spanish side were stunned in a crushing 4-0 defeat, with PSG scoring twice inside the first ten minutes. But despite the humbling exit, Los Blancos didn’t walk away empty-handed. Quite the opposite—their tournament run yielded one of the most lucrative prize hauls in club soccer history.

The revamped Club World Cup, now played in a 32-team format every four years, comes with a rich prize structure from FIFA. While Madrid’s dream of lifting the trophy was dashed in the semifinals, their financial success remained untouched.

According to COPE and multiple Spanish media outlets, “Real Madrid earned a total of $80 million from this edition of the FIFA Club World Cup.”

A sizable chunk of that amount—approximately $34.2 million—was guaranteed simply by participating in the tournament. But Madrid’s performances throughout the event added millions more.

Game-by-game breakdown of the earnings

Group stage victories over Pachuca and Red Bull Salzburg earned Madrid an extra $4.03 million.A draw against Al Hilal contributed $1.01 million to their total.Progressing to the Round of 16, where they beat Juventus, added $25.9 million.A tense quarterfinal win over Borussia Dortmund, which sent Madrid to the semis, earned them another $21.2 million.

Altogether, this built up to a remarkable $80.6 million—a record payday for a team that didn’t even make the final.

Had Real Madrid beaten PSG and reached the final, they would have stood to earn an additional $30 million. However, the French champions dismantled any hope of that with a ruthless first-half display in New Jersey. Still, from a financial perspective, Madrid leaves the tournament as one of its biggest beneficiaries.
