Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has shared a heartfelt tribute to Diogo Jota following the tragic passing of the Portuguese forward, with Salah’s post capturing the profound sense of loss felt within the Liverpool squad and the footballing world.

Salah has played with Jota since the Portuguese joined the club back in 2020. They have enjoyed success together at Anfield and their attacking partnership has done wonders for the Premier League giants.

Jota tragically passed away on Thursday after being involved in a car crash, alongside his brother Andre.

Salah posted his tribute to Jota on X (formerly Twitter):

“I am truly lost for words. Until yesterday, I never thought there would be something that would frighten me of going back to Liverpool after the break. Team mates come and go but not like this. It’s going to be extremely difficult to accept that Diogo won’t be there when we go back. My thoughts are with his wife, his children, and of course his parents who suddenly lost their children. Those close to Diogo and his brother Andre need all the support they can get. They will never be forgotten.”

The Egyptian international also shared a photo of himself embracing Jota during a match, symbolising the close bond the pair shared during their time together at Anfield.

The post has since gone viral, receiving millions of impressions and thousands of comments from fans worldwide, all joining Salah in mourning the loss of a player who was admired not only for his footballing talent but also for his humility and kindness off the pitch.

Salah’s tribute highlights the deep bond that existed within the Liverpool dressing room, with Jota’s passing leaving a void that will be felt for a long time.

Liverpool players, past and present, along with manager Arne Slot and club staff, have all expressed their grief, with plans for a memorial tribute at Anfield already in discussion as the club and its supporters come together to honour Jota’s memory.
