Steelers sign GM Omar Khan to contract extension

Shaq is back.

Following last week’s report that 2017 third-round pick Shaquill Griffin was returning to the Seattle Seahawks, the team announced the reunion on Wednesday. Griffin agreed to a reported one-year, $3 million contract with the potential for that number to be boosted to $4 million (presumably through incentives).

After completing his rookie contract in 2020, Griffin signed a three-year contract in free agency with the Jacksonville Jaguars, bringing him back to his home state of Florida. He was let go after the 2022 season and bounced around the league with the Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans, and most recently the Minnesota Vikings, where he had his best season since his Seahawks departure. Seattle was in search of some veteran cornerback depth to add to a group that boasts two-time Pro Bowl selection Devon Witherspoon, ballhawk Riq Woolen, and the up-and-coming Josh Jobe.

The Seahawks were at the 90-man roster limit—technically 91 with the international player exception—at the time of the Griffin signing, so someone had to be let go in a corresponding move. Former Los Angeles Chargers third-round cornerback JT Woods was placed on waivers four months after signing a reserve/future deal with Seattle. Woods initially played as a safety for the Chargers before transitioning to corner in 2024. He hasn’t had any NFL action since 2023.
