SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) co-owner Kavya Maran has opened up about her viral memes during IPL matches, months after the 2025 season. Kavya stated that her on-camera reactions are simply raw emotions reflecting her passion for the game, but they end up as meme content.

Kavya Maran is regularly seen expressing her emotions during SRH’s home and away fixtures. SRH have had inconsistent performances in recent years, managing just one playoff appearance in the last five seasons following their 2016 title win. However, Kavya has remained a constant presence at the stadium.

SunRisers Hyderabad Endured a Disappointing IPL 2025 Campaign

SunRisers Hyderabad endured a disappointing IPL 2025 campaign, finishing sixth on the points table. They failed to qualify for the playoffs after ending as runners-up in 2024. The team had showcased an aggressive and entertaining brand of cricket a year earlier but struggled to find consistency this season.

While the batting lineup showed promise, the bowling unit failed to deliver. The underperformance of key players, especially veteran pacer Mohammed Shami, has put his future at the franchise in doubt.

Apart from the IPL, SRH co-owner Kavya Maran also co-owns the SunRisers Eastern Cape (SEC) in the SA20 league. The SEC franchise won the SA20 title in 2023 and 2024 before finishing as runners-up in 2025. Kavya also attends IPL auctions and meetings with other franchise owners.

Those Are My Raw Emotions That You’re Seeing – Kavya Maran

In a conversation with Fortune India, Kavya Maran said that her presence at matches is part of her role, especially in Hyderabad, where she has a seat in the stadium. She attends games in other cities like Ahmedabad or Chennai and sits far from the action in private boxes but still ends up under the cameras.

“Those are my raw emotions that you’re seeing because my job has brought me to the point that I have to put myself out there. In Hyderabad, I can’t do anything; I have to sit there,” Kavya said (via InsideSport).

“That’s the only place I can sit. But even when I go to Ahmedabad or Chennai, and I’m sitting many feet away, somewhere in the box, the cameraman manages to find me. So, I understand how it becomes memes,” she added.

I Genuinely Wear My Heart on My Sleeve – Kavya Maran

Kavya Maran has become the emotional heartbeat of the SunRisers Hyderabad fanbase. Speaking about her connection with both SunRisers Hyderabad in the IPL and SunRisers Eastern Cape in the SA20, Kavya admitted that she’s fully invested in both franchises.

She said that her emotional reactions come from her deep involvement in the teams, adding that when someone pours their heart and soul into something, it’s only natural to feel personally connected to its triumphs and setbacks.

“When it comes to Sunrisers, I genuinely wear my heart on my sleeve. I think when you put your heart and soul into something, you naturally tend to get very personally attached to its successes and failures,” said Kavya (via the aforementioned source).
