Yuko Kuroki Retains WBA Crown with Commanding Win Over Nanako Suzuki – World Boxing Association

A Great Win Marred By Controversy

Jake Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) and Julio César Chávez Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KOs) will soon face each other in a 10-round cruiserweight clash.

Their bout headlines a Golden Boy Promotions card – done in collaboration with Most Valuable Promotions – at the Honda Center in Anaheim California. Fight fans around the world can catch the action live as a pay-per-view (PPV) on DAZN.

Both men spoke at a press conference ahead of their June 28 fight. Below is some of what they had to say.

Jake Paul vs. Julio César Chávez Jr. Press Conference Quotes

Jake Paul

“He’s a great fighter,” said Paul. “I like big names, legendary names, and he’s on my path to a world championship. This is a tough test, a very tough test, but I’m here to challenge myself and do big things in this sport and then make a title run after I beat him on Saturday.”

“He’s coming in prepared. They’re saying this is the hardest he’s ever trained, and he’s right…I’m not a good boxer. I’m a great boxer.”

Julio César Chávez Jr.

“No, I don’t think he’s good,” Chávez said through an interpreter. “I think he tries, he trains hard, but he’s not a good fighter. He’s definitely not a good boxer. If he were a good boxer, then everyone else on this stage would be a legend. I don’t think he’s a good boxer, and everybody knows that.”

“My preparation, I always prepare to take a win. I’m here to win and that’s why I’m so confident that I will win.”

Fight Prediction

Chávez is 39 years old and has fought professionally just once since January 2022. That one fight was a six-round clash against Uriah Hall, a former mixed martial artist who had only boxed once prior to their meeting. The pair put on an incredibly dreadful fight that night. Despite all the experience and claims that he has trained hard for the Paul clash, it seems unlikely that the former middleweight champion will roll back the years.

Despite facing terrible opposition, Paul is still the younger of the two and has been boxing for over five years. Unlike Chávez, he has also been active during that period. Honestly, it feels like the reason why this fight is happening is because Paul’s team are looking to get him some credibility by having him face a former world champion who they are confident he can beat. Expect that to happen on Saturday night. Paul to win via unanimous decision.
