Manchester United were reportedly offered the chance to sign Inter Milan striker Mehdi Taremi, while the two clubs engaged in talks for Rasmus Hojlund.
United are in the market for a striker this summer, as doubts continue to grow over Hojlund’s long-term role at the club. Following another challenging season, it has become increasingly evident that the Dane may not yet be ready to lead the line as United’s primary forward.
Hojlund scored only four Premier League goals but his challenges ran deeper than his finishing. He struggled with key aspects of the striker’s role, including hold-up play, movement and passing, while his erratic first touch regularly drew criticism from fans.
Despite this, there remains interest in the 21-year-old, especially from Italy. Inter appear to be the club making the strongest advances to lure Hojlund away from Old Trafford.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Napoli are also eyeing him.
United are believed to have already held talks with Inter, who are proposing an initial loan deal with an option to buy the player at the end of the upcoming 2025/26 season.
Ruben Amorim’s side are not interested in a temporary deal and are instead pushing for a permanent transfer, which would enable them to reinvest the funds into new signings.
According to journalist Graeme Bailey for United in Focus, Taremi’s name popped up during talks between United and Inter.
It’s claimed Inter offered United the chance to sign Taremi, but the Red Devils declined as the Iran international does not feature on their list.
Taremi has endured a tough time in Italy since joining the Nerazzuri from Porto in July 2024. He did well in Portugal, so Amorim likely knows him well.
He actually scored fewer league goals than Hojlund last term – one in 26 Serie A appearances.
Inter are eager to offload the 32-year-old, who is being followed by Besiktas, and Premier League duo Fulham and Nottingham Forest. So there is a chance Taremi will be playing in England soon.
