Zimbabwe are set to host Sri Lanka for a white-ball series comprising two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20 Internationals (T20Is), beginning on August 29. All five matches will be played at the Harare Sports Club in Harare.
The three-match T20I series holds much more significance for the Chevrons, as it serves as an important preparation ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final. The qualifying tournament, scheduled to begin on September 19 and hosted by Zimbabwe, will be a crucial opportunity for the team to secure a spot in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2027.
“We are delighted to confirm Sri Lanka’s visit to Zimbabwe for what we expect to be a thrilling and competitive series,” Givemore Makoni, the Managing Director of Zimbabwe Cricket, was quoted as saying by ICC.
“Matches between our two nations have always produced entertaining cricket and this tour comes at a crucial time for our team as we prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup qualifying campaign” Makoni added.
The upcoming series against Sri Lanka is part of a three-month schedule for Zimbabwe, which will also see them host South Africa and New Zealand. The period includes a T20I tri-series featuring all three nations. Before the tri-series, Zimbabwe will clash with the World Test Champions South Africa for a two-match Test series.
Sri Lanka, meanwhile, are underway in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle with a home series against Bangladesh. They are set to play three ODIs and three T20Is following the Test matches.
The last time Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka faced each other was in January 2024, when Sri Lanka claimed a 2-0 victory in a three-match ODI series at home. Squads for the upcoming tour are yet to be announced.
