Liverpool attacker Luis Diaz has been linked with a move to Barcelona in recent months, and it appears that a move could be on the cards now.
Barcelona sporting director Deco has confirmed the negotiations for Liverpool’s Colombian star. and revealed that the player wants to join the Catalan club.
Barcelona have switched their attention
It was previously reported that the Catalan giants were looking to sign Díaz with an offer worth around €80 million. However, the priority has since changed. Deco and the technical team have put Athletic Bilbao’s young attacker Nico Williams at the top of their wishlist, and they have suspended talks for Díaz.
Diaz’s desire to join Barcelona is not new. The player’s father had previously stated that his son dreams of playing for Barcelona. However, that dream appears to be on hold for now.

Bayern Munich keen on Luis Diaz

Meanwhile, sources close to the player’s situation have informed CaughtOffside that Bayern Munich are closely monitoring the Colombian’s situation. The German giants want to strengthen their attacking unit during the summer transfer window. Diaz is on Bayern’s shortlist along with Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli and Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo. Coach Vincent Kompany is prioritising creative and explosive forwards who can help the team compete in the UEFA Champions League.
Sources claim Bayern Munich have been informed about the Colombian winger’s situation, but have found Liverpool’s price tag too high. Diaz has not yet made a definitive decision about his future. Saudi Arabian clubs have also held talks with Diaz, though they have yet to make an offer that meets financial expectations.
It will be interesting to see if Liverpool are willing to let the player move on. He has been a key player for them, scoring 17 goals last season. He picked up eight assists along the way as well. He has been one of their most important attackers since joining the club, and losing him would weaken the squad.
Similarly, Gakpo is also an important member of the first team (scored 18 goals last season), and it seems unlikely that Arne Slot will sanction his departure. Liverpool are more likely to cash in on Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota instead.
