As reported yesterday, Bayern Munich have made an enquiry for Malo Gusto of Chelsea this week, giving The Blues with perhaps a big decision to make.
Gusto is still rated at Chelsea and nobody is exactly giving up on him yet after what was a very poor season from him last season. But there are other aspects to consider here, namely Josh Acheampong.
The 19-year-old has a super high ceiling and many in the game believe he will go to the very top. Chelsea rate him highly.
Josh has also played very well in the inverted full back role under Enzo Maresca and is certainly more competent there than Gusto is. He is also more competent playing as a centre back in the back three role when in possession. He just offers more than Gusto does, with the latter being better as an out and out full back. Both players can be versatile and have been used in a number of positions by Maresca.
So there is a situation here. Do we send Josh out on loan this season to develop at a Premier League side, with interest coming in. Or do we use him as Reece James’ main backup where he will likely play a lot of games as Maresca tries to manage Reece with his injuries problems?
If we do this, then we can allow Gusto to be sold. But would we want to do that and should we still have belief in him? Gusto has just turned 22-years-old and at times has looked like a truly superb signing and has had some great games for us so far, it’s important to remember that as well. But I think if he stays then Josh simply has to go on loan to play.
So, what would you do? Answer in the comments…
