Former Manchester United midfielder Kleberson has claimed that United need more players like new signing Matheus Cunha.

Kleberson joined the club in 2003 before leaving just two years later in 2005.

He only managed 30 games for the team, scoring two goals in total.

The former World Cup winner with Brazil is hopeful that his compatriot will have a much more impactful time at Old Trafford.

Cunha signed from Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this month for a fee of £62.5 million.

Speaking to The Independent, Kleberson has given his two cents on United’s move for Cunha.

He described the transfer as “a big signing for Manchester United” and stated “I am really happy to see Matheus Cunha play for” the club.

Elaborating on why he feels the new signing is such an intelligent piece of business he added, “he has really smart movements without the ball. He can make some diagonal runs, he can receive the ball a lot of time in the final third.”

The World Cup winner also added that the attacker has a lot of “potential to grow in the Premier League” and that “he can make [the team] much better”.

He argued that the Red Devils are in a “tough moment now” after finishing 15th in the Premier League last season but the club “needs players like him.”

Building on this point, Kleberson claimed that not enough players at the club showed a winning mentality and the desire to do the dirty work to get the victory.

He claimed, “that’s the thing I want to say again: be hungry to fight and compete and win a game. It doesn’t matter how you win, like 1-0 or 2-0, but I want those guys who walk on the field, they know what they have to do to win a game and bring the three points back to Carrington.”

Finally, he threw his support behind current head coach Ruben Amorim claiming, “I think United trusts a good coach.” He also added that joining in the middle of the season was always going to be a tough start.

Nonetheless, he stated that it is imperative that the club has a good pre-season and starts next year in much better shape than the season gone by.
