Juventus continue to push hard for Manchester United target Jonathan David and have reportedly made the free agent an offer to tempt him to Turin, although it may not be enough.

The 25-year-old striker did not sign a new contract at Lille after another impressive season in front of goal, and is now on the hunt for a new club with considerable interest across Europe.

The Red Devils have long been linked with the Canada international, who would seem a no-brainer of a signing as he could address the team’s chronic lack of goals while not costing a transfer fee.

This logic has not been lost on other clubs, however, and Juventus are leading the charge to bring the centre-forward on board.

According to today’s print edition of Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, the Old Lady “have not given up” on David who “by dint of procrastinating has already seen several trains pass in front of him.”

The report claims that Juventus have taken the formal step of offering a five-year contract worth €6m net per season plus a €15m signing bonus to the player, although this may not cut the mustard.

The report explains that this is “slightly lower than the request” of David’s entourage, who are aiming to maximise the money involved in any deal for the free agent.

David was recently reported to prefer a move to the Premier League, with Italian clubs coming to the fore in the race for his signature due to a lack of offers from England.

This update was in United’s favour but there doesn’t seem to be much movement from the Red Devils, who are in hot pursuit of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres with a formal proposal in the works for the free-scoring Swede.

The curtain fell on David’s Lille career with a 25-goal season to help the side to a fifth-place league finish.

In 232 games for the French club he netted an impressive 109 goals and supplied 30 assists.

Meanwhile Ruben Amorim oversaw a United side desperately poor in front of goal, with his number 9 Rasmus Hojlund in particular a disappointment. The Portuguese is in desperate need of reinforcements at centre-forward, but whether it’s David or not remains to be seen.
