Tottenham close in on Thomas Frank appointment

Tottenham are edging closer to naming Thomas Frank as their next head coach, following the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou.

Frank, 51, is currently considered one of the leading candidates to take over the managerial reins in North London.

The Danish coach, who has been in charge at Brentford since 2018, is under contract until 2027.

As a result, Spurs would need to pay a substantial compensation fee, reported to be in excess of £10 million, to secure his services. That amount could increase depending on how many of his backroom staff he wishes to bring with him to Tottenham.

Postecoglou’s departure came just over two weeks after leading Spurs to their first major silverware in nearly two decades with a Europa League final win.

Despite that triumph, the team endured a dismal domestic campaign, finishing 17th in the Premier League with 22 defeats across 38 matches.

Frank, on the other hand, has won plaudits for his work at Brentford. After guiding the Bees to Premier League promotion through the Championship play-offs in 2021, he has kept them competitive in the top flight despite limited resources.

This season, Brentford secured a 10th-place finish, well clear of struggling Tottenham, finishing 18 points ahead of then.

Tottenham are also preparing to announce the departure of chief football officer Scott Munn, marking another shift in the club’s off-field structure.

Munn, who joined Spurs in 2023, is believed to have exited the club as part of a broader internal reorganisation.

The Australian administrator played a key role in the appointment of fellow countryman Postecoglou last summer. His departure follows the arrival of new CEO Vinai Venkatesham last week and the exit of long-time executive director Donna Cullen.

With both the men’s and women’s teams currently without permanent head coaches, Spurs are bracing for a pivotal summer.

Former director of football Fabio Paratici is reportedly in discussions to return to a more formal role once his FIFA-imposed suspension, related to alleged financial misconduct during his time at Juventus, comes to an end in July
